Edson Cavalcante won this Saturday (27) his second gold medal at the Paralympic athletics Grand Prix in Marrakech, Morocco. The sprinter, born in Acre, reached the top spot on the podium in the 200m class T37 (cerebral palsy). Before that, on Friday (26), he had already come first in the 100m race for athletes in classes T37/38. And there was another golden Brazilian on the day, as Leandro Viana from São Paulo was champion in the long jump in class T38 (cerebral palsy).

Edson Cavalcante won the 200m race in the T37 class at the Marrakech Paralympic Athletics Grand Prix, completing the distance in 25s16. Second place was Mostafa Fathalla Mohamed, from Egypt, with 25.55, and the bronze medal went to Yassine Nakour, from Morocco, with 28.40. In the 100m victory, the Acre native, one of those called up by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) to defend Brazil at the World Cup in Kobe, Japan, from December 17th to 25th, won with a time of 11s83.

In addition to Edson Cavalcante, Brazil placed another athlete on the podium in the 100m at the Marrakech Paralympic Athletics Grand Prix. The bronze went to Henrique Caetano Nascimento from São Paulo, with a time of 13.00. To conclude the winners, the Egyptian Mostafa Fathalla Mohamed won silver with a time of 12.03. In the T38 class long jump, Leandro Viana won with a mark of 6.28m, followed by Taha Al Harrasi, from Oman (5.08m), and Youssef Zakary, from Morocco (4.96m).

Sunday with Brazilians in action

The Paralympic athletics Grand Prix in Marrakech, Morocco, continues this Sunday (28) with Brazilians on the track. The first will be Edson Cavalcante, who is looking for his third gold in the competition. After winning the 100m and 200m, the Acre native competes in the 400m, in the T37 class, at around 2:27 pm. Next, it will be Leandro Viana’s turn to try to triumph in his second race at the event. After winning the long jump in class T38, he competes in the 400m in the same class, at 2:35 pm.

To conclude Brazilian participation in the Paralympic athletics Grand Prix in Marrakech, Morocco, Maylon Rogério Santos competes in the F38 class javelin throw, at around 3:25 pm. The Brazilian delegation on Moroccan soil has four athletes. The competition welcomes around 450 athletes from 64 countries and ends this Sunday (28).
