Marco Bezzecchi explains accident with Binder and Bagnaia: ‘I don’t want to express myself, ask the stewards’

With ten laps remaining in the Spanish GP Sprint race, Marco Bezzecchi was involved in an accident with Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) and Francesco Bagnaia – which resulted in the Ducati man falling and abandoning himself.

The Pertamina Enduro VR46 driver suffered a Bagnaia crash during this incident and, after the race, explained the events: ‘I saw the repeat because at that moment I only heard a big bang behind me. What happened was that Brad tried to overtake Marc in the last corner, he lost grip as soon as he accelerated, so he was very slow on the outside. Pecco was on the left, I was on the right and Binder was in the middle. Pecco completely overtook him on the straight and I overtook him almost completely‘.

Regarding his attempt to overtake, Bezzecchi defended: ‘I was strong under braking, so I tried to overtake him and I overtook them both. I only went a little wide, but I think I could finish overtaking, because in that corner, even if you go wide, you have a big corrector and there isn’t much space to try to overtake again. Then I just heard a big bang‘.

Refusing to share an opinion on what happened, #72 added: ‘I saw the replay, and Brad touched Pecco, and Pecco was unfortunately between me and him, and he couldn’t do anything to avoid me. What can I say? I don’t want to express myself, so ask the stewards‘.
