The governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), declared three days of official mourning for the death of the former president of the Brazilian Bar Association Sectional of the Federal District (OAB-DF) Juliano Costa Couto (featured photo), aged 49.

The decree appears in an extra publication in the Official Gazette of the Federal District (DODF), this Sunday morning (28/4).

The head of the Buriti Palace mourned his friend’s death.

“Juliano Costa Couto was a consummate lawyer and an undisputed leader at the head of the Brazilian Bar Association Section of the Federal District, an entity that he presided over from 2016 to 2018, and where we had the opportunity to work together, revealing his competence, balance and permanent willingness for dialogue. He leaves a legacy that will inspire us to reaffirm, every day, our commitment to the public spirit that inspires us. His name will always be remembered with nostalgia, both by his friends, by the law, by the Law that he defended, and by Brasília that he loved so much. To the family, I offer my deepest condolences.”

There is still no confirmation on the cause of death, but Costa Couto fought bowel cancer discovered in 2017.

“My condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the former president of the Brazilian Bar Association of the Federal District (OAB-DF) Juliano Costa Couto, who died prematurely, this Sunday, at the age of 49. Farewell

Born in Minas Gerais, Juliano was a lawyer and university professor. After graduating in law in 1997, from UDF, in Brasília, he opened the law firm where he has worked until now in the federal capital.

The lawyer assumed the presidency of OAB-DF between 2016 and 2018, but began management activities at the entity in 2007, when he became a counselor. With a postgraduate degree in public law, civil procedure and a master’s degree in constitutional law, he also served as deputy secretary general of the section.

In March 2017, Juliano was diagnosed with bowel cancer, underwent surgery a month later, at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital in São Paulo and began chemotherapy. The surgical procedure resulted in the removal of 16 centimeters of the organ, which was compromised.

Juliano leaves his wife, Aline, and two children. The wake will be this Monday (29/4), from 9 am to 11:30 am, and the burial, at 11:30 am. The farewell takes place in Chapel 10 of the Campo da Esperança Cemetery in Asa Sul.
