Arturs Silovs will be the third goaltender to start for the Vancouver Canucks in their first-round series against the Nashville Predators. And it’s only Game 4.

Team sources confirmed to The Athletic‘s Rick Dhaliwal that Casey DeSmith is injured, but that injury isn’t related to the hit he took in the first period from Michael McCarron (for which McCarron was fined $2,000).

Silovs — who has made seven career NHL starts — will lead the Canucks out onto the ice for warmups on Sunday afternoon and is set to start Game 4.

It’s unclear when DeSmith sustained his injury or how injured he is, but he was excellent throughout Game 3 in relief of Thatcher Demko. What this means for who will mind the net for the rest of Vancouver’s first-round series, and into the next round if they’re able to advance, remains unclear. One would expect the Canucks to clarify the situation following Sunday’s game.

DeSmith was previously injured in Game 1 of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 2022 first-round series against the New York Rangers. He missed the rest of the series with a core injury similar to one that kept him out of the Penguins’ 2021 opening-round series against the New York Islanders.
