Recording shows PM shooting and killing unarmed man at close range in Vale

Images from a security camera obtained by the report THE VALLEY show the exact moment a military police officer shoots and kills Tiago Henrique de Oliveira Batan, 27, during this year’s Carnival in Paraibuna. The case happened on the night of February 11th. Tiago was unarmed and was attacked by the police with baton blows, trying to retaliate against the attacks. The court ordered the arrest of military police officer Felipe Nunes dos Santos, who is accused of the crime. The arrest order was carried out last Friday (26), in Caraguatatuba. In the recording, which was made on a city hall camera, Felipe and another police officer approach Tiago and talk briefly. He reaches to raise his hands, but begins to be attacked by the police, with baton blows. After receiving five blows, Tiago tries to fight back.

Tiago then tries to fight back and suffers new attacks. At this moment, the police officer shoots Tiago at close range, who falls and, despite being shot in the chest, is attacked again, receiving a blow to the face with a baton. Initially, the police stated that they reacted because the boy had tried to take a gun from one of them and that the shooting was accidental. The court saw contradictions between the PM’s version and the images.

The police officer was arrested by the PM’s Internal Affairs Department, which reported the military police investigation to the Court on the 5th, with Felipe being indicted for murder. Tiago’s friends and relatives demand justice. The boy is described as hardworking and kind. “He was beaten by a police officer, he retaliated, but another police officer, without trying to restrain him, fired. It wasn’t self-defense, it was execution,” said a friend of the victim.
