The Lagos Chamber announced a 3.3% update to the tariff for water supply, sanitation and solid waste, a measure that will come into force from May 1st.

This decision, says the municipality, is in line with the recommendations of ERSAR, the sector’s regulatory entity, which is responsible for “issuing a prior opinion on the compliance of municipal system tariffs with applicable legal and contractual rules”.

The Lacobrigense city council adds that the value of the increase corresponds “to the inflation rate seen in 2023, and takes place in a scenario of scarcity of water resources, since, despite some recovery of water reserves stored in dams and the reduction in consumption of water recorded in the month of March (compared to the same period of the previous year), the Algarve remains in a situation of extreme hydrological drought”.

This decision, guarantees the chamber, “does not change, however, the exemptions and reductions provided for domestic consumers (social tariff and family tariff) and special non-domestic consumers, which remain in force to support citizens and families in greater difficulty in meeting the costs resulting from the consumption of essential goods and services”.

The president of the municipality, Hugo Pereira, states that measures have been implemented to reduce water losses in the municipality, highlighting the investment of around 7 million euros, supported by European funds, in the installation of 52 Measurement and Control Zones , which allow monitoring 62 kilometers of network, and the renewal of ducts.
