The Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into the death of the 55-year-old man who lost his life following a hot air balloon ride, in Mourão, in Alqueva, on Sunday morning.
The passenger was accompanied by his wife, but ended up “leaving” the basket. The team on the ground that normally follows balloon flights went to meet him, but found the man already inanimate.
The case was passed to the Judiciary Police, which is investigating the circumstances of the man’s death.
When the land team arrived at the scene, this man was already inanimate, surfaced in the water, two meters from the bank.
The investigation is awaiting the results of the autopsy to validate this version of the facts and determine the causes of the 55-year-old man’s death.
In addition, the investigation also wants to understand the maximum capacity of that type of hot air balloon, and whether the flight was planned or whether there was negligence on the part of the company or the balloon operator.
There are still many questions to be clarified in this death, but the victim’s attitude allowed the at least twelve people on board the balloon to land safely, this time, on dry land.
