GAECO/MPRJ denounces three men involved in the murder of a lawyer in the center of Rio

The Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ), through the Specialized Action Group for Combating Organized Crime (GAECO), denounced, on April 26, the three men, including a military police officer, already temporarily arrested , for involvement in the death of lawyer Rodrigo Marinho Crespo, shot dead in the center of Rio on February 26.

The three were charged with the crime of qualified homicide. At the request of GAECO/MPRJ, the Court of the 3rd Criminal Court ordered the PM’s removal from his duties and the loss of his gun possession.

According to investigations, the accused participated in monitoring the victim and were together before and after the crime. One of those involved also provided information about the vehicle used on the day of the lawyer’s death.

The complaint highlights that the crime was committed for a base reason, “demonstration of strength and power, given that the victim’s professional performance, as a lawyer, had been disturbing the vested interests of a criminal organization active, among other activities, in the exploitation of online betting games”. It emphasizes that it was committed through an ambush, “since the executor, aware of the victim’s routine after routine surveillance and monitoring carried out by the other defendants, waited for her to leave work, so that she was suddenly attacked when she least could have suspected the attack”. And even though the crime was perpetrated using a resource that made it difficult for the victim to defend himself, “who was hit by several gunshots, while her back was turned, in a typical act of summary execution”.

At the beginning of the criminal action, prosecutors also emphasize that the crime was carried out to ensure the execution and advantage of other crimes committed by the accused and their associates, linked to gambling.
