The first great pilgrimage in Minho begins today

The Festa das Cruzes begins today in Barcelos. Considered the first great pilgrimage in Minho, the party starts at 11 am, with the inauguration of Arcos de Pilgrimage, on Avenida da Liberdade. Then, at 5:30 p.m., the natural flower petal carpets will be inaugurated at the Temple of Senhor Bom Jesus da Cruz and, at 8:00 p.m., there is Street Folklore with the Folklore Group of S. Lourenço de Alvelos, the Tregosa Folklore Group, the Ethnography of Dances and Songs of the ADRC of Gilmonde and the Folklore Association of S. Miguel da Carreira. From 10pm onwards, “Bandas na Romaria” begins with the Banda Musical de Oliveira and the Banda de Música das Taipas. It is in the 5th of October field and has free access. At 11pm, “Bamos aos Cruzes” begins, in Jardim das Barrocas. For the first night, the night festival offers Vítor Rodrigues. The night will also feature DJs Rafman and Lilas Cruz. The first day of the great festivities in Barcelos ends at midnight with the Fogo de Pilgrimage in Porta Nova square.

This year, the Festa das Cruzes will once again be organized by the Chamber of Barcelos, in collaboration with the Municipal Education and Culture Company (EMEC), the Real Irmandade do Senhor Bom Jesus da Cruz and the Parish of Barcelos. There is a big party in Barcelos until the 5th of May.
