Chelsea return to Barclays Women’s Super League action when we travel to take on Liverpool at Prenton Park on Wednesday evening.

Having seen our UEFA Women’s Champions League journey come to a disappointing end on Saturday, the Blues have four games remaining in the race to defend our WSL title with Liverpool our first assignment in May.

In our previous WSL outing, we recorded a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Kingsmeadow. Maika Hamano and Kadeisha Buchanan scored their first goals for the club after Aggie Beever-Jones had broken the deadlock with a clever finish.

We travel to a Liverpool side that has continued to evolve under the guidance of Matt Beard. They are the first of four hurdles we will be required to clear as the season nears its conclusion, with the title race intensifying.

When and where?

We make the long journey north to face Liverpool at Prenton Park in the WSL this Wednesday 1 May, with kick-off scheduled for 7.00pm (UK time).

How to follow

As always, you can follow the game via Chelsea Women’s social media channels. There will be live commentary on our Twitter page and regular updates on Facebook and Instagram. Simply search ‘ChelseaFCW’ on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

For supporters who are unable to attend the match, this fixture has been selected for live television coverage on Sky Sports for UK customers.

The form

Going into the match, we sit second in the division and six points adrift of leaders Manchester City but with two games in hand. We can close the gap to three points with victory over Liverpool on Wednesday evening.

After 15 wins, one draw and two defeats from 18 league matches to date, we have earned 46 points from 54 available. With 53 goals scored and 14 conceded in the process, we possess a goal difference of 39 – seven behind Manchester City (46).

As for Liverpool, they occupy fifth place in the league table with 32 points having won nine, drawn five and lost five of their 19 league games to date. They have netted 27 goals and conceded 25 leaving them with a goal difference of two.

Liverpool vs. Chelsea recent head-to-head record

For the reverse league fixture in November, we recorded an emphatic 5-1 victory over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge where Lauren James was the star of the show.

James netted an impressive hat-trick on a day where Sjoeke Nusken and Beever-Jones were also on target, in our second WSL game of the season to be held at the Bridge.

Next up for the Blues

Emma Hayes’ final home fixture as Chelsea manager sees us welcome Bristol City to Kingsmeadow in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday 5 May, with kick-off at 6.45pm (UK time).
