The Porto Municipal Assembly unanimously approved a PSD motion to hold “an urgent meeting” between the executive and the Minister of Internal Administration and adopt measures to ensure more police personnel and resources.

The PSD’s motion, approved in the session that took place on Monday night, requests “an urgent meeting” and urges the taking of “urgent” measures to ensure more staff and resources for the Public Security Police (PSP) of the Harbor.

At the same time, the Government is required to increase the amount allocated to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, “so that reforms can be carried out in the medium and long term”, such as the review of remuneration tables, investment in the working conditions of the PSP, a change in the staff work and a reform of the training model “so that it can be decentralized”.

Representing the municipal group, deputy Rodrigo Passos highlighted that insecurity “is no longer specific to one area of ​​the city”.

“Security must be resolved as soon as possible, since phenomena and movements take the opportunity to ride on this issue”, he said, highlighting that for the Social Democrats the issue must be addressed “as soon as possible” with the new Government to that the answer also be given “as soon as possible”.

In the document, to which Lusa had access, the PSD municipal group recalls that six months after the potential municipal assembly, which had security in the city as its main theme, “the problems continue to persist”.
