Gabriel Leone is chosen to play Ayrton Senna in new Netflix miniseries

Gabriel Leone will play the pilot Ayrton Senna, in the series released by Netflix, this Tuesday (30).

The cast also includes Camila Márdila, interpreter of Vivianne Senna, Ayrton’s sister, Marco Ricca interpreter of Maurão, Ayrton’s father, Susana Ribeiro interpreter of Zaza, Ayrton’s mother, Nicolas Cruz interpreter of Leonardo Senna, Ayrton’s brother, Rodrigo Veloso interpreter of Flávio, Senna’s brother-in-law.

In the exciting trailer, which features narration by Galvão Bueno (which actually happened), scenes are shown in a kind of minute flashback of Ayrton Senna in his first victory in Brazil in the 1991 GP in which he became three-time champion in the sport. Watch the trailer:

The episodes

The series has six episodes and will show the path of overcoming, the disagreements, the joys and the sadness of Ayrton Senna since the beginning of his racing career when he moved to England to compete in Formula Ford until the tragic accident in Imola, in Italy, during the San Marino Grand Prix, which led to his death in 1994.

The production also features Alice Wegmann in the role of Lilian, Ayrton’s first wife. Christian Malheiros is Maurinho, the pilot’s friend; Gabriel Louchard is in the role of Galvão Bueno; Hugo Bonemer as Nelson Piquet; Julia Foti as Adriane Galisteu; Pâmela Tomé in the role of Xuxa; the Frenchman Matt Mella as pilot Alain Prost and Kaya Scodelario, playing journalist Laura.

Gabriel Leone and the character

Gabriel Leone, who played Ayrton, was not interested in Formula 1, but the world of racing cars entered his life through two intense works: the film “Ferrari” and the Netflix miniseries “Senna”.

“I grew up in Brazil where my family and the country experienced a certain amount of mourning in relation to Senna”, he recalls in an interview with the videocast Na Palma da Mari. “He was much more than a spectacular driver, a guy who revolutionized the sport. For Brazil, he was an idol.”

“It was an honor for me, a huge responsibility to play this character, to tell this story. And I think this, without a shadow of a doubt, was the most challenging process, the most complex immersion I have ever had in my career”he stated.

The miniseries “Senna” is produced by the audiovisual producer Gullane and has the active participation of the driver’s family behind the scenes, with its recordings divided between Brazil and Argentina. It is directed by filmmaker Vicente Amorim, who also directs alongside Julia Rezende. The production, which does not yet have an official premiere date, is scheduled for 2024.
