Buying a television has become an increasingly complex task for the average consumer. In the past, the only concern was screen size. Nowadays, however, it is necessary to consider not only the size, but also the refresh rate, resolution and the difference between technologies such as LED and OLED.

So what is the difference between LED and OLED TV and which one should you choose? Leak shared what to take into account when making the decision.

LED vs OLED TV: What’s the Difference?

The biggest distinction lies in the fact that LED (Light Emitting Diode) in LED TVs only refers to the backlight that allows viewers to view the image on the screen. LED panels do not create the image we see; instead, they work in conjunction with a transparent LCD panel, as LCD panels do not emit light by themselves.

On the other hand, OLED televisions (Organic Light-Emitting Diodes) create and emit their own light to project the image. They do not have a separate backlight, which makes them thinner than other TVs available on the market.

How to choose?

Currently, the choice between an LED or OLED TV depends on the available budget. OLED televisions, although more expensive, offer exceptional image quality, providing a truly immersive cinematic experience. Thanks to their ability to turn off pixels individually, OLED televisions can reproduce deep blacks, resulting in impressive contrasts.

However, LED televisions are more affordable, especially for larger screen sizes. Although they do not achieve the same level of image quality as OLEDs, LEDs offer excellent performance at a more favorable price.

In short, while OLED televisions are leaders in picture quality, LEDs are a more affordable option for those on a budget. Therefore, when choosing between LED and OLED, it is important to consider your individual needs, personal preferences and, of course, the available budget.
