After two weeks of protests on several university campuses in the USA, which saw hundreds of students detained, this Thursday is being marked by renewed demonstrations in support of Palestine at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and other educational institutions Higher.

According to a report released this morning by local media, at least 1,600 students have already been arrested in the various protests taking place at North American universities. The CNN international teams at UCLA report that the police were called to intervene by the university’s president, who speaks of an “illegal concentration”.

“Protesters are trying to reinforce their barricade while police officers in protective equipment try to tear it down,” the channel said. “The officers are taking the detained protesters in buses that the police had prepared in a parking lot about 1.5 kilometers from the campus.”

This morning’s events are a repeat of what has happened at several other universities in the United States, including Columbia and New York University, where thousands of students have set up camps and barricades in demonstrations in support of the Gaza Strip, where more than 34,500 people, mostly women and children, have already died in the offensive launched by Israel in the aftermath of the October 7 attacks carried out by Hamas, in which around 1,200 people died.
