The price of piped gas is more expensive in Pernambuco, starting this month.

In the State, there was an adjustment of 6.89%. It will be valid until July this year.

Through a note released this Thursday (2), the Pernambuco Regulation Agency (Arpe-PE) informed that it published the authorization for the quarterly recomposition of the product’s average operating tariff.

According to Arpe-PE, the tariff adjustment “is a consequence of the change in the price of gas from suppliers to Copergás, increased by an average of 7.92%, and occurs in the significant majority of states in the country”.

According to the agency, the dealership’s selling price to its consumers is directly related to the mandatory variations in the value of the input.

It “fluctuates according to the transfer of the main natural gas suppliers and their fluctuations in the national and international market.”

Arpe-PE also reported that “Pernambuco, when considering the average, managed to maintain competitiveness with one of the lowest tariffs in the national market”.

Arpe reinforces that, among the various categories served, residential consumers are the group least affected by the current quarterly adjustment, with an average of 4.3%.

“The quantity of this category represents the majority of the concessionaire’s customers, corresponding to 11.7 thousand meters. It is important to highlight that the residential category had an increase of almost 40% below the average for the entire universe of Copergás consumers”, explains the director of Economic-Financial Regulation at Arpe, Fred Maranhão.

The manager said that the measure integrates the actions of the regulatory agency and the Government of Pernambuco “to reduce the burden on citizens’ pockets”.

In the area of piped gas, under state jurisdiction established in the Constitution, Arpe regulates and supervises the distribution services of Companhia Pernambucana de Gás (Copergás).

The company is a mixed capital company with private capital, linked to the Secretariat of Economic Development of Pernambuco, whose partners are the State of Pernambuco, with 51% of its common shares; Commit Gás, holding 24.5% of the shares, and Mitsui Gás e Energia do Brasil, also holding 24.5% of the shares.

The Agency prepares regulations to guarantee the principles of encouraging efficiency and competitiveness, in addition to correcting market imperfections, observing the economic-financial balance of the concession contract.

The set of regulations published by the Agency includes, among others, tariff control, general gas supply conditions and network expansion rules.

The inspection carried out by the State Agency aims to comply with the concession contract and other standards applicable to the provision of local piped gas services.

At the end of each inspection action, a report is prepared and sent to the concessionaire, with the non-conformities identified, Arpe’s recommendations and deadlines for presenting the corrective action plan.
