Military firefighters were called just after 4:30 pm. Almost an hour later, residents still heard the sound of sirens during the service. Traffic was stopped towards the coast for the teams to work and a detour was opened in the early evening, after 6pm.
The occupants of the smaller vehicles (a Palio from Blumenau, an HB20 and a pickup truck also with Blumenau license plates) were not injured. One of the truck drivers, aged 29, had bruises on his face, but did not need to be taken to the hospital, rescuers said. The second truck driver, aged 42, who left the road and stopped his truck on the bank, was taken to Hospital Santo Antônio with wounds to his legs and face, as well as suspected fractures to his arm.
Traffic stopped in the city
As a result, traffic in the city was also compromised, especially in the North region. The Municipal Traffic Guard reported that drivers tried alternative routes and ended up queuing at different points, such as in the Itoupava Norte, Escola Agrícola and Itoupavazinha neighborhoods. Even without any record of accidents in the urban perimeter, around 7pm the flow was still compromised on the roads within the municipality.
On BR-470, the Federal Highway Police has allowed traffic on the doubled lane, which is still under construction. Even so, the slowness prevailed around 7pm. The corporation was waiting for the tow truck to arrive so it could allow access to the accident site. Until the last update of this text, the PRF did not disclose the dynamics of what happened.
