The closing takes place on the 10th of June in Tomar, at the Convento de Cristo, with the Orquestra de Sopros de Ourém, the Camerata Oureana and the soloist Irene Lima (cello) celebrating the centenary of the birth of the composer and conductor Joly Braga Santos, and the opening session takes place this Sunday, May 5th, at 9 pm, with Catarina Perdigão (voice), Nuno Neves (Portuguese guitar) and Pedro Pinhal (viola) presenting the show “O Meu Fado” in the auditorium of the headquarters of AMBO – Academia de Música Banda de Ourém.
In between, the 28th Festambo offers theater, poetry and dance, as well as music.
In 2024, the festival promoted by AMBO includes 10 events, which, in addition to those already mentioned at the beginning of the text, include a recital by pianist João Costa Ferreira (specialist in the work of Vianna da Mota and currently director of Casa de Portugal André de Gouveia in the international university city of Paris), two choir meetings, a youth band meeting, an evening dedicated to traditional music, a program with four typical orchestras, a workshop of Latin dances and the “Poetry of Freedom” session.
Between May 5th and June 10th, the organization plans to involve 600 interpreters in an edition with activities in various locations in Ourém, Atouguia, Pêras Ruivas, Fátima and Tomar.
With a program “markedly focused on music in different genres and origins”, this year “Portuguese authors will have a preponderance”, can be read in the publicity note, which also highlights the holding of shows in five parishes in the municipality of Ourém and the occupation, on Portugal Day, of a monument classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
