Santos has been in talks with Argentinos Juniors to arrange debt payment in installments for the purchase of Gabriel Carabajal. The value is around R$3 million, and Peixe has a good asset to convince the club from the neighboring country: the recent agreements made by the board.
The Argentines are collecting their debt from FIFA and there is a risk that Santos will suffer another “transfer ban” punishment, which prevents the club from registering players.

The debt for Carabajal was contracted in 2022, and the charge at FIFA is around R$580 thousand dollars. It is another problem for Marcelo Teixeira’s management to manage left by former president Andres Rueda. Before, Santos de Teixeira overturned two other “bans” from the entity.
The agreements were with former coach Fabián Bustos and with Kransnodar, a Russian club. In both cases, Peixe has been making payments. A scenario that could help convince the president of Argentinos, Christian Malaspina, to agree to the installment plan.
For Santos, even if the installment is short and sequential, lasting three months, it will be a great help with cash flow, for example. The clubs are talking and there is still no definition.
The sanction itself would not hinder Santos’ life too much, as the club has hired and already registered the three reinforcements for the Serie B sequence: midfielders Patrick and Serginho and full-back Escobar. It is not yet possible to know whether the club intends to hire more in the middle of the year, but at this point it is unlikely.
In this way, more than a need to bring in new athletes, avoiding FIFA sanctions is a way of getting rid of yet another problem.
Carabajal arrived at Santos in August 2022 and, in the following season, was loaned to Vasco. Returned to Peixe, it was passed on to Puebla, in Mexico. In total, he will have a contract with Peixe until June 2026. The midfielder has 12 matches and one goal scored.
