Santos has trump cards to pay off debt

Santos seeks to hold talks with Argentinos Juniors to pay in installments the R$3 million debt relating to the transfer of player Gabriel Carabajal. To negotiate the agreement, President Marcelo Teixeira aims to use a trump card:

The recent financial agreements signed by Peixe can be used to negotiate the settlement of the debt with Argentinos Juniors regarding the transfer. The pending charge at FIFA puts the club at risk of suffering a new transfer ban, which will prevent the registration of new players.

The recent agreements signed by Santos with former coach Fabián Bustos and with Krasnodar, in which the club has been making payments on time, could serve as an asset to convince Christian Malaspina, president of Argentinos Juniors, to accept the debt payment in installments.

Until then, the debt will be paid in three installments. If confirmed, it will be a great help to the club’s cash flow. However, there is still no definitive agreement between the parties.

Until then, the sanction does not directly impact the Santos team, as the last three reinforcements signed have already been registered: midfielders Patrick and Serginho, and left-back Escobar. Recently, the Club also paid a debt involving former president Rueda.

Gabriel Carabajal arrived at Santos in August 2022. The following season, he was loaned to Vasco da Gama. Back to Peixe, it was passed on to Puebla, in Mexico. The player has a contract with Alvinegro Praiano until June 2026.

While the situation is not resolved, Santos returns to the field this Monday (6), at 8 pm, against Guarani, in Series B of the Brazilian Championship. The match will be broadcast on Premiere.
