Moedas demands a “very, very urgent” decision from the Government on new airport | Carlos Moedas

Carlos Moedas does not say exactly how he will do it, but promises that, if the Government does not quickly decide the location of the new Lisbon airport, it will “insist every day and, every day, demand that this decision be taken”. The warning was left by the Mayor of Lisbon in statements to Rádio Renascença who questioned him about the matter during the mayor’s visit to the Buenos Aires Book Fair where the Portuguese capital is the guest city.

“I have already told the Government that it should be one of the first major decisions”, stated Carlos Moedas, who said that he spoke with the Minister of Infrastructure, Miguel Pinto Luz, about the matter and that he reinforced that it was “very important” for him that the decision see the light of day and also be part of the solution.

“There are those who are against it, and those who are in favor. But I hope that this solution comes quickly”, he insisted, without revealing his preferred location. Carlos Moedas really wants a decision to be made and the work to move forward, wherever that may be.

In December, when it was already known that there would be early legislation in March, Luís Montenegro promised that, if he became prime minister from March onwards, “one of the first decisions to be taken will be to choose the location of the new airport”. If possible, in fact, he would do it on the “first day”, he stated, then announcing that he would create a working group in the party to be able to “consensualize a path” to help “make the final decision”.

The program of the new AD Government, presented a month after Luís Montenegro was elected, promised to relaunch the privatization of TAP and “quickly decide on the construction of the new airport” in Lisbon.

When he was received by the President of the Republic in Belém after the elections, the general secretary of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, said he wanted to participate in the decision process for the location of the new airport – which was a task that he would have in the short term if the Government of António Costa had not fallen.
