Europeans: Marcelo will opt for early voting and advises the Portuguese to do the same – News

“I would like to take this opportunity to say that I will exercise early voting a week before and that I would highly advise many Portuguese people to do so because there is that ‘bridge’ on the 9th”, said the Head of State to journalists, in Beja.

On the sidelines of the visit he is making this afternoon to the Ovibeja agricultural fair, which ends today in that Alentejo city, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa admitted that “it is possible that many” Portuguese “have their lives planned” for the weekend of the European elections and Therefore, it will be “more difficult” for them to vote on June 9th.

Therefore, as the elections take place this Sunday and, the following day, June 10th (Monday), is the holiday that marks the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, early voting is the solution recommended by the President.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa left this advice when he met with the head of the AD list for the Europeans, Sebastião Bugalho, who, accompanied by his delegation, also visited the fair today and went to meet the Head of State.

When they greeted each other, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa told Sebastião Bugalho that he already knew that he “was entering” the fair “through the main door”, but that, instead, he “modestly” chose to “enter through the restaurants”, that is, for another entry into the competition.

When asked by journalists whether he wanted to mislead the head of the AD list, the President of the Republic was short and direct: “No, I wanted to go directly to the food”.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also said that he had been informed that, at that time, “another candidate” was at the fair, alluding, without saying her name, to Marta Temido, head of the PS list, who also visited Ovibeja, accompanied by other candidates from the party to the Europeans.

“See? They are located here in the heart of Ovibeja. Ovibeja is very important”, highlighted the President of the Republic.

Still during the meeting with Sebastião Bugalho, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was asked by journalists whether he considers that the AD has a good candidate, but he argued that he could not “formulate judgments for two reasons”.

“Firstly, because I cannot formulate opinions about candidates”, maintained Marcelo, referring to only having “one vote” and that is the one he will cast in advance.

And he also pointed out a “second reason” for not giving his opinion on Sebastião Bugalho’s candidacy for the European elections: “I’ve known him for a long time and I’m suspicious, because I know him and I like him, therefore, everything he said was suspicious. In order not to be suspicious, I prefer not to have an opinion.”

The head of the AD list, to whom the PR sent “good luck” wishes, said he wished he had “the energy” of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, because it would give him “very useful for this electoral campaign”, and highlighted to journalists the “a clear appeal to vote” in the European elections, especially “to vote in advance”, left by the Head of State, considering it “very important” that the Portuguese participate in this electoral act.
