Seriously injured young woman was going to give her mother a gift when she suffered an accident in Braga

The 17-year-old girl who, early on Sunday afternoon, was hit in the car while driving alongside her brother, along Braga’s Variante Sul, by another car that had lost its way and was already out of control, was going home to give the Mother’s Day gift.

According to O MINHO, the young woman, however, having already undergone emergency surgery at the Braga Hospital, due to fractures of both legs and the femur, was always conscious and is recovering well.

As O MINHO found at the scene, the young woman was always talking to the operatives of both the Braga Sapadores Firefighters and the INEM medical team who were assisting her while she was extricated.

The most serious victim of the road accident, resident in the parish of Priscos, in Braga, was extricated after almost an hour and a half, through a delicate operation, by the Braga Sapadores Firefighters.

The occasion on which the young woman was finally taken to the stretcher and taken to the Braga Hospital Emergency Room was marked by a round of applause from the dozens of people who were watching the operations from Viaduto de Nogueira.

The commander of relief operations, Pedro Araújo, a graduate of the Braga Sapadores Firefighters, revealed to O MINHO that, among the nine injured, there are two situations that require care, especially the young woman, who had fractures in both legs.

Crashed car hits others

The accident occurred when a car that was following the Variante Sul, in Nogueira, towards Porto-Braga, lost track and collided with two other light vehicles and a truck, which were all traveling in the opposite direction, causing multiple casualties.

The most serious situation was that of the first car hit by the vehicle, already out of hand, in the front passenger seat of which the seriously injured young woman was riding. The car was driven by his brother, who suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the truck involved, despite driving at a high point, also suffered serious injuries.

In the car that caused the accident, all injuries were considered minor, with one of those injured immediately losing consciousness and falling unconscious in the back seat, while the driver of another car was unharmed, but in a state of shock.

In addition to the Braga Sapadores Firefighters, the Braga Volunteer Firefighters, pre-hospital emergency technicians from INEM, as well as the crew of the Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER), also from INEM, participated in the operations.

For around three hours, the traffic continued in the Porto-Braga direction, with hundreds of cars stopped, one of which had a burnt engine due to the stop-and-go, while in the opposite direction it was only circulating from the Shell Station. (ex-BP).

The Braga PSP was also involved in relief and rescue operations, cutting off road traffic on Braga’s Variante Sul, diverting traffic to peripheral roads, having already carried out an expert report on the accident and recorded the entire incident.
