The price of corn continued to fall in April, highlights the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP.

Last month, the Cepea indicator, based in the region of Campinas (SP), fell 5.9% compared to the previous month, closing April at R$57.93 per 60-kilo bag.

In the annual comparison, the drop is 13.6%, in real terms (calculated using the IGP-DI of March 2024).

According to Cepea researchers, producers remain focused on developing the second crop and harvesting the summer crop, postponing the commercialization of the cereal.

On the demand side, the remaining stocks for 2022/23, the summer harvest harvest at a good pace and the second harvest crops developing without major problems have led buyers to limit purchases to the short term only.

According to Cepea surveys, the summer harvest in Rio Grande do Sul was halted in recent days due to excessive rain and flooding in several regions of the state.

In the south of Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná and São Paulo, the low volume of rain and high temperatures are beginning to make agents apprehensive.
