But Gonçalves decided to continue. “I became attached to God. Today I do everything: I cook, drive and work online, buying cars at auction and reselling them”, he says.

Of his three children who were in the car, only the middle one, now 9 years old, was injured (he broke his hip). “The family helps a lot. The 7 and 9 year old children live with their grandmother, and the 11 year old girl lives with me. Now I want to organize myself to bring the other two”, he says.

He confesses that he thought about taking revenge on the businessman when he saw him released. “I resisted, but that’s why there are people who take justice into their own hands,” he says.

I would like to see him in prison for at least ten years, but he has money, he won’t stay in jail… What we have left is to receive compensation to live a better life.

Bispo was dozing when he suffered the impact. “When I opened my eye, my whole life had changed. My wife died the next day, next to me in the hospital. I buried her one day and the next I went to see my son”, he says. “When I arrived, they made me sign a bunch of paper to authorize surgery. When it was over, the doctor said my son wouldn’t walk anymore.”
