So, this Monday, the Ibovespa closed down 0.03%, at 128,465 points.

“The market is more cautious this Monday, after a Friday in which there was a positive reaction in relation to the IPCA-15 and payroll”, says Leandro Ormond, analyst at Aware Investments.

“The expenses necessary to rebuild Rio Grande do Sul, in addition to the inflationary effects that may arise from this sad event, are reflected in the interest curve today”, adds Ormond.

World Stock Exchanges: New York

The New York stock exchanges extended the rally at the end of last week by closing this Monday’s trading session with a strong increase of up to 1% among the main Wall Street stock indices.

Investors’ continued good mood comes in the wake of improved expectations for interest cuts from the Federal Reserve (Fed) this year, following the sharp slowdown in the United States jobs report, the payroll, in April.

The Dow Jones index closed up 0.46%, at 38,852.27 points; the S&P 500 rose 1.03%, to 5,180.74 points; and the Nasdaq advanced 1.19%, to 16,349.24 points.

Technology stocks were today’s main gainers, posting a combined increase of 1.48%, according to the S&P 500 sector index.

Leading the rises of the New York benchmark index, Super Micro Computer advanced 6.09%, followed by Micron Technologies, which appreciated 4.73% after Baird began recommending the purchase of the stock.

Airline stocks also performed well today, with highlights being American Airlines (+5.78%) and United Airlines (+4.49%). The movement came despite Spirit Airlines falling 9.70% after reporting a larger-than-expected net loss in the first quarter.

Europe

The main European stock indices ended Monday on a high, with the market once again pricing in two interest cuts by the Federal Reserve (Fed, the US central bank) this year. Furthermore, today, the mood of the European market was also boosted by positive data on economic activity in the region.

The Stoxx 600 index rose 0.52%, to 508.17 points. The DAX, in Frankfurt, advanced 0.96%, to 18,175.21 points, and the CAC 40, in Paris, rose 0.49%, to 7,996.64 points. The FTSE 100, on the London Stock Exchange, did not operate this Monday due to the bank holiday in the United Kingdom.

Published earlier, the euro zone’s composite purchasing manager’s index (PMI) rose to 51.7 points in April, from 50.3 in March. The services PMI rose to 53.3, compared to 51.5, and above the forecast of economists consulted by the “Wall Street Journal”, of 52.9.
