“Since accession in 1986, Portugal has already gained a lot from the European community and has also contributed a lot to this project”, said the prime minister. Luís Montenegro also took advantage of the celebration of Europe Day to call for people to vote in the European elections, on June 9th.

The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, today considered that Portugal’s relationship with the European community has been “gold on blue” and called on the Portuguese to vote in the next European elections.

In a message spread on social media on Europe Day today, Luís Montenegro said that the “European Union was a landmark of the 20th century” and that it is in the hands of the Portuguese to “make it even more remarkable in the 21st century”.

“I want to tell you about the day that is exactly one month from now, June 9th, the day of the European Elections (…). Since joining in 1986, Portugal has gained a lot from the European community and has also contributed a lot to this project. We can even say that this relationship has been gold on blue,” she said.

Considering that the European project is a “peace project, a political, economic, scientific and cultural project that unites common nations into a common nation”, the Prime Minister added that “it is everyone’s responsibility in Portugal and also in Europe, to exercise the right to choose the next MEPs for the European Parliament”.

Luís Montenegro took the opportunity to describe the ways in which, in Portugal, voters will be able to vote in the next European elections that take place on June 9th, remembering the early voting on June 2nd, the previous Sunday, as well as that on the same day it will be possible to vote in any polling station, regardless of the registration location.

“Democracy is built every day so that our voice is heard in Europe, it is essential to choose the Portuguese deputies who will represent our country in Europe. Together we will make Europe,” she said.
