“Race for Glory” is a film that portrays the epic 1983 World Rally Championship season, where the Lancia 037 faced strong competition. Based on real events, the film tells the story of ‘David versus Goliath’, highlighting the battle between the Lancia team, led by Cesare Fiorio, and their rivals.

The plot is inspired by the stories of Cesare Fiorio, portrayed in the film, revealing the secrets and emotions experienced during that season. The European production used authentic period cars and created custom racing circuits to capture the speed and drama of rallying.

The story focuses on Cesare Fiorio and Walter Röhrl, a German driver who joined the Lancia team in 1983. The year was marked by extraordinary achievements, culminating in victory in the Sanremo Rally, where Lancia secured the last World Rally Championship. for a two-wheel drive car.

This victory marked the beginning of a golden period for Lancia, consolidating its reputation as one of the most successful brands in the history of rallying, with 15 World Rally Champion titles and other notable triumphs in motorsport competitions.

The Lancia Rally 037, officially launched in 1982 at the Turin Motor Show, is a story of excellence in Italian motor sport. With 205 hp, double body carburetor and supercharging via volumetric compressor, the car was designed to compete in rallies, with 200 units produced to obtain homologation in Group B.

This model, also known as “037”, is pure sports in every aspect, with bold and functional shapes that have made it an icon of rallying. Based on the Beta Montecarlo, it featured an aggressive style and efficient character, with a minimalist and rational interior typical of competition cars.

The Rally 037’s bodywork, made of polyester with fiberglass reinforcements, had aerodynamic appendages that contributed to its performance, including an impressive rear spoiler. The mixed structure allowed for effective aerodynamic loading, while the covers over the engine and front could be removed easily.

This balanced combination of aggression and elegance, similar to the legendary Stratos, made the Lancia Rally 037 one of the brand’s iconic cars, influencing its future models, such as the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE.
