Video shows action by criminals who ended up killing personal trainer

The tragedy that shocked Rio last Sunday (05) gains new contours with the release of images that reveal the bravery of a young man who gave his life to defend his loved one.

Luis Felipe Alves do Nascimento, 27 years old, personal trainer known as “China”, was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in Flamengo, in the South Zone of the city. Security camera footage captures the moment he reacts heroically to save his girlfriend from the actions of two criminals on a motorcycle.

The video shows the couple walking down the street after a beach luau when they are approached by the bandits.

One of them gets off the motorcycle armed and announces the robbery. At first, Luis seems to surrender, but in a gesture of love and courage, he advances against the bandit, who runs away and shoots him in the back.

Luis falls to the sidewalk, seriously injured. His girlfriend gets desperate and tries to help him, while a friend of the couple approaches, but throws himself to the ground when he hears more shots. The criminal escapes on the motorcycle, leaving a trail of pain and indignation.

Luis was buried on Tuesday (07) and next Sunday (11), the family will hold a seventh-day mass in his honor. Afterwards, friends will gather for a protest at the Guanabara Palace, demanding justice for the brutal crime.

The case is investigated by the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC). The girlfriend and friends who were with the couple have already given a statement. Hotline is asking for information that leads to the perpetrators of the crime.

Luis’ family’s pain was amplified by a communication breakdown at the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, where he was taken after the crime.

Family members accompanied Luis throughout the day at the unit, but were only informed of his death on Monday morning (06), even though the death occurred on Sunday night.

The Municipal Health Department (SMS) regretted what happened and reported that the employee responsible for the error was removed and an investigation was opened. SMS also reinforced the guidelines for the team to prevent events like this from happening again.
