Two men were arrested this Thursday (9) and convicted of murder and attempted murder of an Atlético Mineiro fan in November 2021. The men were part of an organized Cruzeiro fan base and were arrested in Belo Horizonte.
In May of this year, they were sentenced to more than 50 years in prison, however, they were granted the right to go free using electronic ankle bracelets.
The Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG) filed an appeal with the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais (TJMG) alleging that the decision was omitted, as it disregarded that, in case of conviction by the Jury Court, a sentence equal to or greater than 15 years of imprisonment should be determined provisional execution.
The TJMG accepted the appeal and issued an arrest warrant this Tuesday (7), which led to the arrest of the two convicted of murder.
The case
As reported by the G1 portal at the time, after the match between Atlético-MG and Fluminense at Mineirão, in November 2021, around 30 people from an organized Cruzeiro fan group carried out an ambush when the group, which had around 45 passengers, I was in the Barreiro Region, in Belo Horizonte.
The bus stopped and, afterwards, they vandalized the vehicle and threw Molotov cocktails. The collective was destroyed, with broken windows. The injured were taken to the João XXIII Emergency Hospital and other health units. Matheus Freitas, 20 years old, couldn’t resist. The identity of the victim was confirmed by the organized Galoucura fans.
