The Broncos have shot out to a 12-2 lead over a spirited Eels outfit at CommBank Stadium.

The Eels got on the board first via a penalty goal, but the Broncos — after losing Billy Walters momentarily to a wrist injury — hit back with two tries in eight minutes.

A poor pass from Eels rookie Ethan Sanders opened up the door for the Broncos. Ezra Mam scooped it up and combined with Reece Walsh to score a thrilling 90-metre try.

Deine Mariner backed it up with a try after skipping around defenders.
