The victim, Teresa da Conceição Calçada Pinto, was throwing flowers into the water, when she allegedly suffered a fall that ended up being fatal. The practice involved other participants.

A PJ source was contacted and informed that the investigation aims to “clarify” the case. “There are issues that the GNR interpreted as doubtful. We are about to clarify. It doesn’t mean there is a crime”, declared the source.

According to a source from the GNR Territorial Command of Viana do Castelo, the victim is a 48-year-old woman, from Fragoso, and the death occurred in the presence of “eyewitnesses” and under suspicious circumstances. The issue may be the performance of a ritual that went wrong.

On Thursday night, at the scene, family members and people close to them reported that the victim had gone to that place because he “wanted to offer a bouquet”, climbed a waterfall and ended up falling.

The “Azenha da Almerinda” was the subject of works to improve the space for leisure and became more popular with visitors. It is also an area referenced as being sought after for rituals.

According to a source from the Alto Minho Emergency and Civil Protection Command, the alert received at 5:03 pm on Thursday was for an incident of “falling into the river”, on Rua da Azenha.

When emergency services arrived at the scene, “the woman was in the water”.

Firefighters from Viana do Castelo, VMER from Alto Minho and GNR were mobilized, totaling five vehicles and 12 operational vehicles.
