Judge orders former soccer player to wear electronic ankle bracelet in Franca, SP

Based on an analysis of security camera images and other information from the crime scene, the document attached to the case against João Paulo points out that there are significant physiognomic differences between the person who fired the shots that killed the guard and the former player.

– The technical analysis, although limited by the quality of the images, reinforces the narrative that João Paulo de Castro Ferreira was not the individual present on the roof of the bank branch – says the expert.

Two other defendants – a man accused of driving the car used to escape the robbers and another, who allegedly participated in the attempted robbery and shooting – are in prison. There is a fourth defendant on the run.

What does private expertise point out?

The technical opinion on forensic identification contracted by João Paulo’s defense was issued on April 24. The document notes, in its conclusions, that the images from the bank branch camera do not provide conclusive identification, in addition to containing divergences.

According to the forensic opinion, there are differences in the criminal’s hair, beard and face shape – “square” – and the former player’s – “oval”.

– Significant differences were observed between the suspect and João Paulo de Castro Ferreira, ruling out the possibility that they were the same person – says the document, which also highlights that, from the images, it is possible to see that the man who shot the guard preferably uses his hand left to hold the weapon, while the former player is right-handed.

– This divergence between the accused’s allegations and the behavior observed in the images highlights the need for a more in-depth investigation, respecting the fundamental principle of law that advocates the presumption of innocence and requires conclusive evidence before any trial – states the expert.

In analyzing the cameras on streets close to the bank, the private expert pointed out that it was possible to identify the presence of the former player, but circulating outside the building.

– The clothing, facial features and habits recorded in the images corroborate the narrative that João Paulo de Castro Ferreira is the person walking down the street with a bottle of water in his right hand (…) The meticulous expertise of the cameras and the Correlation with contextual data supports the conclusion that João Paulo de Castro Ferreira was not involved in the crime – informs the document.

The watchman killed in the crime was patrolling the roof of the bank branch when he came across two armed criminals. Security cameras recorded part of the exchange of gunfire.

A backpack belonging to the criminals with water, food, a cell phone and belongings was found by the police in the internal area of the agency. The site underwent forensic examination and the material was seized.
