The Apple Vision Pro grabbed all the spotlight there was to pull on planet Earth, however, that light lasted a very short time, especially when we take into account the investment and expectations that the North American giant had regarding this product.
After all, in case you didn’t know, the 800,000 units expected for 2024 were first cut to 450,000, and in recent weeks, there was a new cut to 400,000 units produced and sent to shelves by the end of the year.
Demand for Apple’s AR/VR helmet is really bad. This is partly due to the lack of support from application developers, which is obviously normal, as it is a completely new product class, but most of the problems come from the price. This is exactly why Apple already has plans to change its strategy and price.
Apple Vision Pro 2 will cost half the current price
Therefore, as you may know, the Apple Vision Pro costs something like 3500 dollars in the United States, if it ever arrives here in Portugal, that price should very easily jump to 4000€.
It’s a lot of money for a product that is interesting, but still has a lot of room to evolve.
Therefore, the strategy will change. It won’t happen now, because there is still no way to lower the price of the Apple Vision Pro without affecting its quality. However, the next version of the helmet, which should hit the market in 2025 or 2026, will have a much more attractive price. It won’t be a cheap product, but rumors point to it costing 1500 dollars, which is much nicer.
How does this price drop happen?
Apple will change suppliers to welcome Samsung and SeeYa. This at the same time that it should take advantage of more mature production lines on the processing chip side.
