A parliamentary leader of the Liberal Initiative (IL), Mariana Leitão, commented, this Friday, on the measures announced by the Government for the housing sector.
“There are a series of measures here that reveal, once again, some lack of ambition and clarification regarding them”he stated, in statements to journalists, in Parliament.
Mariana Leitão also considered that there were situations in the Mais Housing package that were not mentioned by the Executive, but that the liberals wanted to be reversed. “We presented it here on Wednesday and that was, once again, through the abstention of the PSD and the CDS. We are talking about the unfreezing of rents, for which there is not a word on this topic from the Government”, he exemplified, considering that people in situations of need must be supported. “But this situation of rent freezing cannot be maintained ‘ad aeternum’ – something that was urgently needed to be reviewed”, he argued.
Mariana Leitão highlighted the “lack of ambition” that has been revealed by the Executive, which could have approved “a large part of the measures” and “chose not to do so”. “When, in October last year, PSD, being in the Opposition, voted in favor of IL’s Housing Now package, which included all the measures presented on Wednesday – and even others”, she recalled.
This Friday, the Government presented the Government’s new strategy for housing, with the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, highlighting that “housing is a fundamental and elementary right” and that someone who “does not have decent housing is compromise your life project.”
