TV presenter and former reality TV star George Gilbey has died aged 40. The British newspaper The Guardian reported that the celebrity was the victim of an “accident at work”, falling from the top of a construction site where he was working.
Gilbey was a finalist on the 14th edition of Celebrity Big Brother, the local version of Big Brother for famous people. He was known for his appearance on the comedy show ‘Gogglebox’, which starred him and his parents.
“George was part of the ‘Gogglebox’ family for eight seasons, along with his parents,” Channel 4 officials wrote in a statement about Gilbey’s death. “Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends.”
The text ends by stating: “The family asked for privacy.”
According to the Guardian, Gilbey had been working on a construction site. Then, at 10am yesterday morning, he fell and was seriously injured. When an ambulance arrived at the scene he had already died.
“Terrible news,” lamented one person on X, formerly Twitter. “He and his parents were a lovely family,” wrote another. “And he had recently lost his father… Poor his mother”, published a third. “Rest in peace”, wished someone else.
