Nurse’s work process regarding the new brain death and organ donation protocol

Death is a difficult process and, in many situations, the non-acceptance of the finitude phase and the hopes for a cure are very noticeable. For this reason, many families find it difficult to accept the diagnosis of brain death and the eventual donation of organs, faced with questions regarding the possibility of the patient surviving.

Faced with this problem, a study by Unicamp aimed to verify in the literature the current and consolidated theoretical basis regarding the brain death protocol, as well as the laws that govern this topic, inserting the nurse in this complex context.

With the new brain death protocol, based on Cofen Resolution 710/2022 and qualified bibliographic references, nurses have greater empowerment, autonomy and security to work together with their team in an organ donation and procurement process.

The new brain death protocol became stricter and safer, providing greater security for family members at the time of the decision.
