A LATAM Boeing 777 had problems on the way to London and had to be diverted to the city of Porto, in Portugal, where it landed accompanied by firefighters.

The aircraft is a 777-300ER that was flying LA-,8084, but when it was flying over the Atlantic Ocean very close to the Portuguese coast, it had a technical problem with the engine, dropping from 33 thousand feet (10 km) to 17 thousand feet (5 .1 km) in altitude and needed to land in the closest and most suitable location, choosing the city of Porto.

The landing was carried out safely and the aircraft was accompanied by firefighters from the Portuguese airfield. On the ground, the problem was confirmed and people who work at the airport informed AEROIN that the aircraft had an oil leak and will only leave tomorrow.

We contacted LATAM who confirmed the situation and said that “Flight LA8084 (São Paulo/Guarulhos – London/Heathrow) had to land at Porto airport (Portugal), at 10:29 am (Brazil time) this Wednesday (27/3), due to the need for unscheduled maintenance of the aircraft. The landing in the Portuguese city was carried out in complete safety. As a consequence, flight LA8085 (London/Heathrow – São Paulo/Guarulhos) scheduled for today (27/3) had to be cancelled.

LATAM regrets the inconvenience caused and is providing full assistance to passengers, who will be re-accommodated on other flights to their destinations. The company also reinforces that it adopts all technical and operational safety measures to ensure a safe trip for everyone“.
