Spanish authorities found the man after realizing his pension was being withdrawn.

The Guardia Civil has located a man who had been missing for 21 years in Spain. Antonio Moncayo explained to the authorities that he lived with a family of market traders and that since 2007 he has worked as a market vendor, El Español.

The family reported Antonio Moncayo missing on January 1, 2003. According to those closest to him, the individual had several financial and health problems and could be living on the streets in Bilbao.

Several efforts were carried out in recent years with the aim of discovering the man’s whereabouts, all without success. The authorities even used the son’s DNA to try to understand if there were any records of the man in any database, but nothing was found.

However, one thing intrigued the researchers. The missing man’s pension was still being paid and money was being withdrawn twice a month, in notes.

On March 19, the Guardia Civil went to the location of the person who was carrying out the surveys, in Caparroso, and found Antonio Moncayo in perfect health.

Antonio Moncayo explained to the authorities that he had lived with a family of market traders since 2007. When asked if he intended to speak to his family again, he accepted, having met with his daughter on March 20th.

The police explained that, as this was a voluntary disappearance of an adult person, investigations are aimed exclusively at locating him. It is the decision of the missing person to inform family members of their whereabouts or any means of contact.
