The confidence of Russian troops is taking a hit due to a government scandal. The number two at the Ministry of Defense was arrested this Tuesday.

Russia is intensifying the offensive in Ukraine at a time when Kiev awaits a new injection of military aid from the West. Ukraine responds with successive drone attacks on refineries and fuel tanks.

The drone attack targeted two fuel depots in Smolensk, in western Russia, with the aim of disrupting the route that is fueling the powerful war machine. Moscow knows that Ukraine is preparing to receive new aid from its allies and is trying to gain ground until that happens.

This morning, Ukraine’s second largest city was hit again. Russia is also intensifying the offensive in Donbass with an assault on the city of Chasiv Yar, in the Donetsk region.

The high morale of Russian troops is being pinched by a government scandal. Number 2 at the Ministry of Defense was arrested this Tuesday. Timur Ivanov is accused of accepting a bribe and risks a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
