The British broadcaster indicated that the United States recently mentioned that it would be military personnel from “a third country” – possibly British, according to the BBC – to deliver the humanitarian aid sent by ship, from Cyprus, and transferred to land through a temporary pier that has been under construction since March.

Although the UK Government has not confirmed the news, the BBC stated that the British Ministry of Defense is considering getting involved on the ground, which would set a precedent of greater risk for the country’s military.

The possible role of British forces would involve driving trucks with humanitarian aid, which would be unloaded across the dock, and delivering them to a safe distribution area in the Gaza Strip, the public broadcaster explained.

Aid would arrive from Cyprus on large ships and then be transferred to boats and trucks.

The objective, specified the station, is to complement, but not replace, the distribution of aid by land, which is still insufficient.

The British Ministry of Defense also reported on Friday that the British Navy auxiliary ship RFA Cardigan Bay had sailed from Cyprus to support construction of the US-led temporary pier.

This ship will provide accommodation for hundreds of American sailors and soldiers, who according to Washington, “will not set foot” in Gaza territory.

Israel went to war with the Hamas group after the Palestinian group invaded Israeli territory on October 7, causing the deaths of more than 1,200 civilians and 240 people being kidnapped.

In Gaza, since the start of the war, more than 34,000 people have died, according to Hamas.
