Pope says young people must turn off their cell phones

Pope Francis remains very active despite his age and some visible weaknesses. In a word aimed at young people, the Supreme Pontiff says that young people must turn off their cell phones.

Pope Francis says young people should look for people

At an event with young people in the city of Venice, Italy, Pope Francis called on them to “put away their cell phones” and “look for people” so as not to become “compulsive typing professionals”. “I tell you: do not isolate yourselves, seek out others, experience God together, follow group paths without getting tired. You could say: 'But everyone around me is on their cell phones, glued to social media and video games,'” declared the Pope.

“Go fearlessly against the current: take your life in your hands, put yourself in the game, turn off the television and open the Gospel. That's too much, isn't it? Leave your cell phone and meet people,” she said.

After Pope Francis said in 2015 that families should turn off their smartphones during meals, the top head of the church said in 2021 that young people are prisoners of their cell phones. Francisco advised young people to recognize their own value, for who they are and not for what they have. “You are not valued because of the brand of clothes or shoes you wear, but because you are unique, you are unique,” he said.
