A British court sentenced, this Friday, a 16-year-old teenager to life in prison for murder, which occurred in June last year, with the judge denouncing the “scourge” of knife attacks.
Mikey Roynon, an aspiring rapper, also 16, was stabbed in the neck with a large knife during a birthday party.
Shane Cunningham was sentenced to life in prison for murder, with a preventive period of 16 years, while two other teenagers of the same age, Cartel Bushnell and Leo Knight, received nine years and nine and a half years in a juvenile institution for manslaughter.
Exceptionally, in a case involving minors, the judge at Bristol Crown Court authorized the publication of the names of the three convicts.
“Mikey had a successful music career ahead of him and his future looked bright, despite having faced many difficulties in his short life,” said the judge when handing down the sentences.
The magistrate also noted that the victim himself had a knife and that the events at the party “happened quickly”, but sentenced the three young people, rejecting any self-defense.
Mikey Roynon was left bloodied and passed out at the entrance of the house where the party was taking place. Emergency medical services arrived quickly but were unable to save the young man.
