According to a statement from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, “Russian information about the alleged inclusion of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the list of wanted persons by the Russian Interior Ministry demonstrates the desperation of the Russian state and propaganda machine, who doesn’t know what else to come up with to get attention.”

“We would like to remind everyone that, contrary to Russia’s useless announcements, the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant against Russian dictator Vladimir Putin for war crimes is real and enforceable in 123 countries,” the statement added.

According to the official Russian news agency TASS, Zelensky is wanted “under an unspecified article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation”.

According to the ministry’s database, Zelenski, born in 1978 in the city of Krivoi Rog, in the Ukrainian region of Dnipro, is part of a list that already includes other names such as the head of the National Security and Defense Council in Kiev, Alexander Litvinenk, added Friday.

The inclusion of senior Ukrainian officials on the list follows a trend that Russian authorities have been following since the start of the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
