New American war technology! Meet the M2 Bradley (M2A4E1)

-

The US Army recently released an improved version of the M2 Bradley, codenamed M2A4E1. This Infantry Combat vehicle is equipped with more technology, highlighting the integration of the Iron Fist active protection system (APS).

M2A4E1 can neutralize drones and guided missiles

The M2 Bradley is an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) used by the United States Armed Forces. An “upgrade” of this vehicle was recently announced, which now includes more technology that considerably increases its defensive protection against recent threats, such as FPV (First-Person View) drones and anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). We talk about an AESA radar, additional cameras and the existence of ammunition launchers in the tower.

The M2 Bradley integrates a system capable of neutralizing observation drones from a mile away, which is particularly relevant, for example, in a drone warfare scenario as is being seen in Ukraine.

Highlight is the Iron Fist active protection system (APS). It is a system developed by the Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. This system is designed to provide protection against a variety of threats, such as anti-tank missiles and artillery shells, which can be directed against military vehicles.

Iron Fist operates autonomously, using sensors, radar and detection technology to identify and neutralize threats that may target the vehicle. It has two layers of defense: a detection layer and an interception layer.

At the detection layer, the M2 Bradley system identifies threats through sensors and radar. In the intercept layer, the Iron Fist fires a controlled explosive charge to destroy or deflect the projectile before it hits the vehicle. It should be noted that the charge can destroy the threat by proximity.

The M2 Bradley was designed to transport infantry troops into combat, while also providing direct fire support against armored vehicles and enemy positions. It has the capacity to transport up to nine fully equipped soldiers.
