A Ukrainian air force stated that Russia had launched 24 Iranian-made drones overnight, of which 23 were shot down, and some missiles, injuring 16 people, including a child, in the eastern region of Kharkiv.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its troops took control of the village of Ocheretyne, which has been targeted by Russian forces in the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine.
Aerial images of the site obtained by the Associated Press show the village devastated by the fighting, with all the buildings damaged.
Kyiv authorities have asked Orthodox believers to follow celebrations online due to security risks.
“Even on such bright days of celebration, we can expect evil acts from the aggressor,” warned Kyiv administrator Serhiy Popko.
In his Easter speech, President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Ukrainians to be “united in common prayer”.
In a video filmed in front of Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, wearing a traditional shirt, Zelensky said that God “has a motto with the Ukrainian flag on his shoulder” and, with “an ally like that”, “life will definitively conquer death “.
In Moscow, Orthodox believers, including President Vladimir Putin, filled the Cathedral of Christ the Savior for an evening Easter ceremony, celebrated by Patriarch Kirill, an outspoken supporter of the Kremlin.
