Giorgia Meloni runs for MEP: she doesn’t want the position, but promises that “Italy changes Europe” as she changes Italy

Joe Biden was “skeptical”, they said. However, in July 2023, when the right-wing and post-fascist Giorgia Meloni, then new head of the Italian Government, concluded her first visit to the United States, the country’s newspapers and some in the United Kingdom wrote that she “reassured the establishment European” and that “the Italian right has aligned itself with the United States”. The press defined the “dwarf”, as she calls herself, as a “great Italian prime minister”.

The reasons are visible. Meloni is with NATO, with the United States, with the European Union (EU) and in favor of Ukraine. At the Roman airport of Fiumicino, the largest in Italy, a observant passenger will see Ukrainian Antonov cargo planes land, and they are unlikely to do so for tourist purposes.

None of the newspapers reported, however, what was already happening at home in Italy. It took a year, which in politics is an eternity, for Anglo-Saxon publications, which are staunchly liberal, to begin writing articles in a restless tone.
