The program “Porto de Arquitetura” continued, on Saturday, with another visit, this time to headquarters of the municipal companies GO Porto and Porto Ambiente (EMAP). The building, located in Carvalhido, was rehabilitated and expanded by Porto City Council for the installation of the two companies. The new facilities are an example of sustainability, having already been distinguished in the responsible architecture category of “Green Awards”.
The visit was accompanied by the project authors, César Machado Moreira and Ricardo Freitas, the person responsible for engineering projects, Domingos Moreira, and Sónia Oliveira, project manager. It was also attended by the Urbanism councilor, Pedro Baganha, and the vice-president of GO Porto, Cátia Meirinhos.
This was followed by a conversation about “building optimization solutions”, moderated by the administrator of GO Porto, Manuel Aranha, and which included contributions from Isabel Santos, founder of Ecochoice and Green Lab, Bruno Veloso, vice-president of the Agency for Energy (ADENE), and the architect Jorge Carvalho, professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Arts of the Lusíada University, in Porto, and at dARQ in Coimbra.
The initiative continues, in April, with the “discovery” of the Alexandre Herculano Secondary School.
“Porto de Arquitetura” is a program developed jointly by Porto City Council and Casa da Arquitectura. Between February and July, eight buildings in the city, representing the latest contemporary architecture, will be subject to free visits and open to the public with prior registration.
All visits are guided by the architects who created the works and always start at 4 pm. At the end of each visit, there will be a conversation with a group of personalities linked to the works.
Access to visits and debates is in order of registration. For each visit, registrations are announced on the event’s social networks.
