The new edition of Open House Porto brings architecture together on April 25th

The initiative, which is free to participate in, takes place from the 6th to the 7th of July under the motto “50 Years of Building Freedom”.

Soon you will be able to create your itinerary.

In April 1974, the Portuguese people demanded “peace, bread, housing, health and education”, as stated in Sérgio Godinho’s song. Now, in 2024, Open House Porto (OHP) intends to remember what was achieved and what the city wants (and needs) for the future.

The 9th edition of the OHP public initiative will take place between the 6th and 7th of July, curated by Teresa Novais and Margarida Quintã, inspired by the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April. In the company of experts and volunteers, the doors will literally open to the architecture created over the last five decades, in the four OHP cities: Porto, Matosinhos, Maia and Vila Nova de Gaia.

At a time when new ideas for managing cities are emerging, to make them more exclusive, accessible and sustainable, Teresa and Margarida, architects from Porto, raise the question: “What do we Portuguese need today to have freedom to serious?”.

For this new edition, there are 70 spaces to (re)visit and you can visit in a free format, that is, without forming groups within the stipulated time; with group formation guided by the OHP team of volunteers or, in a commented way, through a visit accompanied and commented by the author of the architectural project or a guest specialist.

Participation is free and you can create your own itinerary and itinerary, what matters is that you explore the architecture and the city through a new perspective. The itinerary for the 9th edition of Open House Porto will be published online, in the third week of June.
