A twin-engine passenger plane suffered a runway exit accident (“runway excursion”) this Sunday, May 5, after failing to successfully complete a takeoff procedure.
The equipment, model Fokker 50 and registration D6-AIB, belonging to the airline R’Komor, based in Comoros, East Africa, crashed at Bandar Salam airport, in Moheli, Comoros.
The aircraft was unable to take off and ended up in the bush, with its right main landing gear collapsed and badly damaged. Rescue teams responded to the accident and there are reports of several passengers injured, ranging from serious to minor, among the 52 on board.
According to information shared by The Aviation Herald, witnesses reported that the aircraft suffered a problem with one of its landing gear/tires due to a collision with an obstacle, but there is no confirmation whether the collision caused the runway to go off the runway or whether it was a consequence of this. .
This aircraft was involved in another runway excursion recently, in February this year, after a tire burst during landing. At the time, the Fokker 50 only stopped on the grass next to the track, without any collision.
