After three years as SATA’s financial administrator, Teresa Gonçalves assumed the group’s executive leadership in 2023, the year in which the group’s two carriers totaled 395 million euros in revenue (the highest value ever) and in which SATA Internacional (Azores Airlines), whose privatization process will be resumed, recorded the best year in terms of passengers transported: 1.4 million passengers. In an interview with PÚBLICO, the manager explains that the company’s growth strategy involves capitalizing on “the strategic location” of proximity to North America and “capturing tourism traffic”. She recognizes that the congestion at Portela penalizes SATA’s operations, but guarantees that the location of the future Lisbon airport “is irrelevant, what is needed is for the planes to leave on time”.
